Understanding Your Office 365 Email Alias

An Office 365 email alias is a secondary email address associated with your primary account. It allows you to receive emails sent to this alias directly to your primary inbox. This can be particularly useful for personal or professional branding purposes.

Receiving Emails from Your Alias

  • Emails sent to your alias will automatically arrive in your primary inbox. You don't need to take any additional steps to receive these emails.

Sending Emails from Your Alias

  • Outlook for Windows:
    1. Compose a new mail.
      • Look at the top-left for the "From" field.
      • Change the field to reflect the email address you need for this message.
      • Select your preferred account.
      • Compose and send as normal from there.

  • Outlook for Mac:
    1. Look at the top-left for the "From" field.
    2. If not already listed, click "Other email address..."
    3. Type your known email alias to add it.
    4. Compose and send normally after adding.

  • Compose and Send:

    • Once your alias is selected/entered, you can compose emails from Outlook.
    • Moving forward, when sending an email from your alias, simply select your alias from the "From" field.
    • Your email will be sent from your alias, and replies will be received in your primary inbox by default.

Additional Tips:

  • Replying to Emails: When replying to an email sent to your alias, the "From" address will automatically be set to your alias.
  • Forwarding Emails: You can forward emails received at your alias to another email address.
  • Deleting Emails: Deleting emails from your alias will also remove them from your primary inbox.

Note: Specific settings and procedures may vary depending on your organization's Office 365 configuration and the email client you're using. If you encounter any difficulties, consult your IT administrator or refer to Microsoft's official documentation.
