8x8: Programming Quick-Dial Soft/DSS Keys

Modified on Mon, 29 Jul, 2024 at 4:17 PM

This guide details how to program the DSS (Direct Station Selection) keys or Soft Keys (aka Quick-Dial keys) on your YeaLink T46U phone for speed dialing a 10-digit phone number. Speed dialing allows one-touch calling for frequently used contacts, improving efficiency!

Quick YouTube VideoHow To Edit Yealink Phone DSS Keys

(video starts 117 seconds on purpose, to start where our talking point begins).

Good for General/All Use-Cases

Editing SpeedDial (good for all uses, including external 10-digit numbers):

  1. Hold down the key you want to edit for ~3 seconds
  2. Using the arrows, choose Type as SpeedDial
  3. Leave Account ID alone
  4. Label it in the old-style T9 Texting using the number pad (Ex: John Smith)
  5. Value is where the 10-digit number is entered (ex: 4055991234 (Fun Tip: This # is actually real and will tell you the current time and temperature in Oklahoma City))
  6. Press Save

Repeat with all the available other keys.

Good For Receptionists & Heavy Desk Phone Users

Editing BLF (Busy Lamp Field - good for those who heavily use desk phones internally):

  1. Hold down the key you want to edit for ~3 seconds
  2. Using the arrows, choose Type as BLF (not BLF List)
  3. Leave Account ID alone
  4. Label it in the old-style T9 Texting using the number pad (Ex: John Smith)
  5. Value is where the 4-digit extension number is entered (ex: 1234)
  6. Extension is ignored, and nothing is to be entered into this field - contrary to what we'd normally think.
  7. Press Save

Repeat with all the available other keys.

This will give the "Christmas Lights" effect. Using BLF for extensions lets a phone "see" if the user is currently on their phone talking (red), or available to receive a call (green).

The YeaLink T46U Manual [PDF] page 62 shares the following about what the BLF LED status mean:
